Arts & Clubs
Hardin Valley Middle offers several after school and extracurricular activities. Through these clubs and others, students have the opportunity to expand their classroom learning, get to know peers with similar interests, and explore new skills.
Please view PTO Webpage and Facebook Page for information about non-school sponsored, parent supported activities.
Performing Arts
The Hardin Valley Middle School Music Programs are designed to take learners on a musical experience transitioning their musical abilities from elementary school to high school and beyond. No musical knowledge is required; we start from the very beginning. Many national studies have proven that instrumental music helps increase students’ Math and Reading scores. Participating in a music program helps you develop life skills like teamwork, self- discipline, and responsibility. Please see each program's information for specific audition information and offerings.
Band

Through the HVMS Band Program, students will have concert performance opportunities, field trips, and optional audition experiences. After completing our program, students will be ready to join high school concert or marching band! Instrument selection dates occur in the spring.
Chorus

The Hardin Valley MIddle School Choral Program gives students a welcoming place to explore music, build confidence, and express themselves through singing. Its purpose is to teach fundamental vocal skills—such as healthy tone production, breathing, pitch, and harmony—while helping students learn how to work together as an ensemble. Chorus also strengthens listening skills, discipline, and creativity in a supportive, team-oriented environment.
Chorus is a year-long class that meets daily. Students get to perform in concerts, school events, and often community or regional festivals. Yearly events include singing the National Anthem at ball games, performances at nursing homes, holiday events downtown, as well as competitions at Concert Preparation Assessments and Music in the Parks at Dollywood. Students audition and are chosen for honor choruses, including the All-East TN Middle School Honors Choir and Knox County Honor Choir. These extra opportunities build confidence and enrich the students’ musical learning.
Students will discover new musical styles, develop stage presence, and experience the excitement of working toward a shared artistic goal. Chorus can also open doors to advanced musical groups in high school, honor choirs, and hopefully, lifelong participation in music. Participation in a chorus department helps students grow musically, socially, and personally while having fun and building a sense of belonging.
Orchestra

Orchestra students will have Concert Performance opportunities, field trips, and optional audition experiences such as Junior Clinic. Instrument selection dates occur in the spring.
Musical Theatre

The HVMS Musical Theatre program is a fun and engaging class for 7th and 8th graders who love to sing, dance, act, and perform! As part of their daily schedule, students work together to bring songs and scenes from popular musicals to life while learning the fundamentals of stage performance, vocal technique, choreography, and character development. In addition to performing, students also have the opportunity to work behind the scenes as part of a creative team—helping design choreography, sets, costumes, makeup, and even manage stage elements during productions. Musical Theatre helps students build confidence, teamwork, and creativity—skills that go far beyond the stage. Whether you dream of the spotlight or just enjoy expressing yourself, Musical Theatre is the perfect place to shine, make new friends, and discover the magic of storytelling through music and movement!
Winterguard

The HVMS Winter Guard is a club sponsored by the HVMS Band Program and offers students a fun and exciting sport that involves performing a 5-minute competitive show made up of spinning flags, and rifles, dancing, acting, and tapping into a student's creative side. The season lasts from mid-October through the beginning of April and the team practices two days a week to prepare for their competition season. Joining winter guard helps students develop life skills such as team work, self- discipline, and responsibility. It also allows them to find life-long friends that they will be performing side-by-side with all through way up into high school band where they have the opportunity to perform with the marching band and varsity winter guard. If you are creative, love to dance, want to make new friends, and love to throw things, winter guard is your sport!

Sports Clubs
KCS middle school community sports have several defining characteristics. These club sports are not officially sanctioned by Knox County Schools, and onsite principals are not involved in personnel decisions regarding coaches. KCS supplemental insurance is not provided for these activities, and they do not primarily or exclusively use school facilities. Community sports also do not have a faculty sponsor, and the schools are not liable for these programs. While these sports compete under the school name, all Hardin Valley Middle School activities that are not listed as recognized Knox County sports or club sports are considered community sports.
Other sports are offered through various community organizations. Please reach out to these organizations for more information.
