Scheduling Information

During the scheduling process, students will be allowed to mark preferences for some of their Related Arts classes. However, please know that some classes are only offered at certain times and may not fit with every child's scheduling needs. Counselors do their best to ensure students are in classes that will best meet their learning styles and interests. When a student's first or second choices aren't available, students will be placed in Related Arts classes that have open seats available.

All important paperwork needed for scheduling is linked in the spreadsheet as well. Due to recent changes in state law, students are required to take multiple different classes during their time in middle school.

All scheduling questions and concerns should be directed to a student's grade-level counselor. Rising 6th graders should contact Ms. Davis, rising 7th graders should contact Mrs. Kobler, and rising 8th graders should contact Ms. Gomez.

Courses Requiring Application

The courses requiring students to apply for registration are listed below. All applications will be available after grade-level scheduling informational meetings in the Spring.

Yearbook - fulfills a student's Yearlong Fine Arts requirement.
Visual Arts I - this is a high school credit course so the grade a student receives will be reflected on the high school transcript. Additional information from Ms. Parkison will be available in the spring.
German I- this is a high school credit course so the grade a student receives will be reflected on the high school transcript. Additional information from Ms. Chumakova will be available in the spring.
Musical Theatre- course scheduling is dependant upon role received after auditions. Roles may include: actor, set design, choreography, hair and makeup, marketing, etc. For more information, please contact Ms. Whitinger or Mrs. Wilson.
Peer Tutoring- this course is offered quarterly, semester, or year-long. Students will help provide support and friendship to students with special needs.

Academic Change Form

Academic data and performance records are used for placing students in the appropriate level of courses. Because these placements are believed to be the ones that will provide students with the greatest opportunity for academic success, requests for changes should seriously be weighed by the parent/guardian.

However, if a parent/guardian feels that such a change needs to be considered, an Change of Academic Course Request Form must be completed.

For rising 8th grade parents/guardians, recommendations for high school credit classes cannot be changed even with an academic release. The reason is that these are classes for which the high school is giving the credit, not the middle school.

Submission of this form does not guarantee a change in course placement. Requests will be reviewed- along with several student data points- by the grade-level counselor and the grade-level administrator. The administrator will either approve the change or request a parent meeting to gather information and/or address concerns.
